With a budget of $14M, Beverly Hills Cop (BHC) went on to gross over $316.4M worldwide!! This was, in LARGE part, due to Eddie Murphy's unbelievable talent and comedic timing. Not only did the movie smash at the box office, but "Axel F" ultimately became the theme song for the entire decade. FUN FACT: All these years, I thought Herbie Hancock wrote "Axel F" because the song was VERY similar -in style- to Hancock's Funk-Fusion 80s hit, "Rockit," which was released in 1983. Harold Faltermeyer actually composed the theme song and subsequently went on to compose songs for BHC 2 & 3. He's also credited for songs in "Top Gun" and "The Running Man."
