: Over the weekend I had the distinct privilege and honor to receive the #NAACP Legacy Award in recognition of my professional career as a writer, director and producer as well as my personal life as a #philanthropist. The award reads, "JD Lawrence for your living an outstanding personal and professional legacy of excellence for the advancement of all people."
This is an accolade I don't take lightly. The #Bible says, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house."; So being recognized by my own makes this award that much sweeter. Now, along with the many distinguished titles I've received, I can now add NAACP #Award #Winning #Playwright. I accept and dedicate this award in remembrance of my Bishop, Bishop Frank O. White who's leadership and spiritual guidance played an important part in the man I am today. Bishop White will always have a place in my heart.
