: I'm a massive fan of #NaughtyNuris in #Ubud, #Bali...so I decided to check out the one that opened in #Singapore. As I was dining alone this afternoon, I decided I would just order the #soupbuntut (oxtail soup)...apparently using the same traditional Javanese #recipe. Service was acceptable...they didn't go out of their way to be friendly or welcoming. I had to ask for ice water...it wasn't offered when I was seated or even when I ordered the soup. No smiles...from any of the servers. So different from the outright warmth and friendliness at the Ubud joint.
The soup didn't disappoint. It was SEDAP! The oxtail meat was succulent...literally peeled away from the bone with little effort. To be honest, I could eat the meat without the knife...just the fork will do. The soup is very flavourful...peppery as it should and not too salty (which is the one thing I worry about when dining out). The complaint i have (if I must) is that the potatoes weren't tender enough. That's it! At S$8.80, the soup buntut is very worth the order. I had it for lunch without any other accompaniments...not even steamed rice...and it was filling. Just nice as a meal for one person. Better to share it if ordering with other dishes.
Ambiance wise, it's extremely different from the one in Bali...the one in Singapore is obviously more up-market, targeted at diners with higher expectations...it's a lot cooler for one thing. Food is served on pristine white plates and proper knives and forks are provided. The BBQ that's right in front of the Ubud joint is no where to be found in the Singapore place...so you aren't engulfed in the aroma that is synonymous with the BBQ'd pork ribs that Naughty Nuris is so famous for. A quick glance at the menu also tells me that the prices are definitely non-Balinese :)
Overall experience: 3/5 stars
