: Strict Handstand Push-Up Progressions:
If you find yourself conquering push-ups and want to move onto the handstand push up, then a few options to progress to the full movement are:
Top Left: Downward Dog -
This would be the first step in the progression where you get a small 10# plate and place your hands on both sides of the plate. Get into a pike position with your butt in the air (the closer your butt is to being over your shoulders the more challenging it will be).
Then tuck your chin to your chest, reach your head past the plate while sending your elbows straight back and press your head back through your shoulders.
Bottom left: Pike off of a box -
Once you get the downward dog down, advance to the pike. Try to get your hips as much over your shoulders and again, tuck your chin and reach your head past the plate.
Right: Back to Wall -
You want to keep the tripod position of reading your head past your hands and sending your elbows straight back.
If these are too hard, you can begin with negatives.
